Janice Kaplan was once my editor but she is also a wonderful writer and soul-enhancer. I personally have ceased trying to be happy - it's just another reason I find to fail - so my goal is to be content with happiness and sadness existing side-by-side. I seek balance, I guess, more than happiness. But I can always use a navigational tool toward more gratitude. This column serves as that. Check out her Substack.
I love this writer. And I have loved his voice since October 7th. I often silently have a discourse with him as I read him - agreeing there, but not so much here, nodding, shaking my head no, smiling at similes and metaphors, and still ever-still marveling at his not-matter-what wit, his wondrous wit where his wisdom is embedded, the mining of his wisdom there with the spade of his sentences. Read him.
This is one of the best columns at Substack that combines culture with societal musings - and even beauty and fashion stories. I think many of my readers would love to know about Farrah Storr's Things Worth Knowing - because they are.
I have followed him for years. Some of the best political commentary you'll read - presented within the context of a real knowledge of history. Plus, he just writes so damn well.
